Prayer Circles, Clean Spirits, and Scary Voodoo Chiles!

Shorter "The Christian Investigator":
We don't know what Michelle Obama meant by saying the phrase "Keeping the spirits clean*" on the Tom Joyner radio show, so we're going to have to assume that she's a witch doctor, shaman, or - at the least - a voodoo practitioner.

Why is anyone praying for Obama at any time anyhow? The fact that she is asking for prayers for her husband shows that she's arrogant and hates America!
I've never heard such phrases from Christians before. I'm not saying she's not a Christian, but she can't be.

--------------------------------------------------------------

*It's a phrase used by some Pentecostal churches. To suggest that it is syncretistic and therefore not Christian is to not understand Christian history or even the working of Christianity within one's own culture. For people to not understand that may be forgivable, but then they should do some research before they make press releases. Unless they're so blinded by their racist politics that they can't. But to question the meaning of a 'prayer circle' is just plumb ridiculous.

What's just as infuriating is how these nut-jobs take swipes at Ms. Obama for saying similar things (just in different garb, which they interpret their their racist lens) that Bush II's supporters said all the time for their beloved one.

  1. Sure, and we all want Limbaugh to be the one telling us the definition of "Christian"... [general snorting and giggling].

As one Evangelical Christian who is doing everything he can to break the so-called "Christian Right's" grip on my spiritual family, I'm continually shocked by the comments made about Michele, about her husband, and about other Americans deemed enemies simply because they do not hew to a sufficiently reactionary political framework.

Here's a list of "moral sins" I'd like to see a "Christian" candidate run on:

    1. Nationalism (a form of idolatry, made worse each time God's name is used to justify it).
    2. "As you have not done it to the least of these, you have not done it to me." -- Jesus, trying to clue these folks in on his liberal, maybe even "socialist", agenda.
    3. Lying isn't cool. Lying a lot is... well, "Liars are friers." That for Glenn "The Weeper" Beck and his many Christian followers. That's also for the Republicans lying about reducing the deficit while wanting to hold onto Bush tax cuts that will add $4 TRILLION to the deficit.
    4. "Do not call conspiracy all these people call conspiracy." Yep, that's right. Think a little. Gullibility after a while really is a sin... and the Christian Right has gullibility down to an artform.
    5. Talking about the bedroom while failing to talk about the street -- and those living in the street because they have nowhere else to go -- is the sin of subtracting from God's Word. That's right... ONLY a whole Bible makes a whole Christian... or a balanced politics.

    I could so add more.
